Ex-Rams Player’s Drunk-Driving Case Sent to Trial

An Orange County judge on Monday ordered former Los Angeles Ram player Frederick Douglas France Jr. to stand trial on felony charges that he was driving drunk last year when his car sideswiped another vehicle in a freeway accident.

Prosecutors allege that France’s blood-alcohol level was 0.15%, almost double the legal limit of 0.08%, when his sport-utility vehicle struck a car on the San Diego Freeway in San Juan Capistrano. No one was injured.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for March 13.

France faces felony charges because he pleaded guilty to alcohol-related vehicular manslaughter charges in 1990. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a three-year prison term. He remains free on $25,000 bail.
